I only changed the picture into all these steps to give insight. Looking at something like you don’t know what you are looking at is one of the most difficult things to learn. Following the steps at your own pace and doing all 4 sections will help you teach yourself something that is very counter intuitive. You can learn to look for your own value shapes in what you see.

When I was at school, art class consisted of sitting quiet and just drawing stuff, there was no instruction with method or technique at all which kinda flies in the of the concept of a “class”. My art teacher may as well have been a damn plumber! Thanks Mrs Kime (my art teacher) but I learned more in a couple of hours watching this series than I did in a whole year at school. Actually I learned more from the video titles here than I did at school!

reduce color saturation to zero. go to select by color range and select the parts. copy the raster and paste it. you tinker with color range to simplify the initial layers then adjust a bit more to a higher detail.
